Mwansabombwe District has recorded a total of 13 babies born on New Year’s Day following visitations to various health facilities by Mwansabombwe Town Council Chairperson, Mr. Terrioh Chungu.
During the visits, Mr. Chungu presented baby hampers to the 13 newborns 5 boys and 8 girls as a gesture of goodwill and government support to mothers and their babies. The initiative was aimed at encouraging safe motherhood and supporting vulnerable families during the festive period.
Speaking at Ng’anga Bilonda Hospital, the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Lubinda Mpundu commended the Government for the timely gesture, noting that the support would go a long way in assisting helpless mothers and their newborns. He further stated that hospital management was grateful for the continued support from the local authority.
Meanwhile, Dr. Malama, the Head of Clinical Care, disclosed that the district has recorded zero maternal deaths, adding that health facilities have continued to register positive outcomes for newborn babies, a sign of improved maternal and child health services in the district.
One of the beneficiaries, Ms. Precious Mulenga, expressed gratitude to the district leadership for the initiative, stating that the support came at a critical time, especially for mothers who had completely nothing to care for their babies.
The gesture by the local authority reflects Government’s commitment to promoting maternal and child health and strengthening community support systems in Mwansabombwe District.
