Kafue 19th December 2025.
Public Relations Officers from local authorities across the country are participating in a three-day media training on the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) being held in Kafue District.
The training has been organised by the Ministry of Information and Media, in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and is being facilitated through the Zambia Institute of Mass Communication (ZAMCOM).
The programme aims to strengthen the capacity of Public Relations Officers to effectively communicate government development programmes, particularly the Constituency Development Fund, to the public using ethical, accurate and modern communication approaches.
Key thematic areas covered during the training include digital communication ethics, understanding the national CDF strategy, development of local communication strategies for local authorities, crisis communication and management, as well as contemporary information dissemination tools.
Participants are also being trained in leveraging social media for education, communication and addressing social issues, with a strong focus on local government public relations in the decentralisation framework.
Speaking during the training, facilitators emphasised the critical role of Public Relations Officers in promoting transparency, accountability and citizen participation in the implementation of CDF projects at local authority level.
The three-day training has attracted Public Relations Officers from various councils countrywide, reflecting government’s commitment to strengthening communication systems in local authorities to support effective service delivery and community development.
The training is expected to enhance the ability of councils to provide timely, accurate and citizen-focused information on development initiatives, particularly those implemented under the Constituency Development Fund.
